Paris'
bicycle program, Velib, aimed to have over 20,000 bikes at 1,450 bike stations
by the end of 2007. Ride for less than 30 minutes for free, or pay just $7
for a weekly pass. | NOTE: Velib’s
Bike-rental machines ($1.50/day or $7/week) only accept credit cards with
smart chips, such as certain American Express cards. You also can’t rent
a helmet, so you’ll have to bring one (though there are no helmet laws in
Paris.) Willing to spend more? $15/day will rent you a bike and helmet at
one of the 20 Roue Libre stands (www.rouelibre.fr) (Source: Budget Travel, April 2008) |
