Yes, There Are "Resorts" in Iowa

Okoboji, Iowa: August 2007

Okoboji Iowa Family Get TogetherMy parents have owned a timeshare at West Oaks in Okoboji for over 25 years. Most years we spend the first week of August enjoying the "Iowa Great Lakes" family reunion style. You can be as active or relaxed as you care to be.

West Oaks Resort is in a very convenient location, as you are walking distance to an amusement park called Arnold's Park, lots of shopping including the Emporium, restaurants, water sports, public beach, and private dock to name a few.

Another resort close by is Fillenwarth Beach. They are extremely family friendly with lots of planned activities including boating, water skiing, sailing and social activities. Keep in mind that "beaches" in Iowa is a very loose term!

Some of our favorite restaurants are Yesterdays and Fisherman's Wharf, but mostly we enjoy good 'ole Iowa home cooking in our condo—corn-fed beef, fresh sweet corn and tomatoes you can eat like an apple.Okoboji sunset

Often we spend the day hanging out on the dock swimming, relaxing, reading and catching up with family. We take turns going out on the boat to ski, go tubing or pleasure cruising.

West Oaks has 3 swimming pools, a hot tub and a rec room with pool tables, ping pong tables, video games, laundry room (no charge) and a large gathering area with kitchen. Nearby there is a nice paved bike trail that shows the natural beauty of Iowa.

If you are lucky enough to have someone watch your kids, the night life is quite active. Some of our favorites are The Ritz and The Regal Beagle.
