Keenland Race Track and a Driving Tour

March 2008, Lexington, Kentucky

While on our family road trip we stopped in Lexington to visit Keenland Race Track. The whole place was beautiful!

We arrived early enough to watch morning workouts which my 12 year old niece thoroughly enjoyed. We were able to go all the way down to the track and have a front row view of the trainers working the horses. Keenland Race TrackAfter watching the workouts we went into the gift shop where we got a map to do a walking tour of the grounds, you can also print this tour from the Keenland website. On this tour we were able to see the paddock, clubhouse and grandstand...we were even able to go right down to the stables. I think this was one of the neatest parts of our tour as we got to see where the horses are housed as well as watch the ones that were finished with their workout being cooled down, washed and shoed.

After our tour of Keenland we got back in our car and started a driving tour we'd found online, on the Lexington Visitor Bureau website, that is based on the movie Dreamer. We drove past so many beautiful farms, the stretches of white and black fence running along the road and the foals playing in the fields with their mothers watching was so pretty.

Lexington, KentuckyDon't miss the drive by "The Castle" on Versailles Road! I had read about this ahead of time and was still amazed by seeing an actual castle in the middle of Kentucky. castle on Versailles Road, KentuckyThis was such a great trip for our family! I really look forward to planning another one to this area because there is just so much more to see. I hope you have as much fun as we did!
