Thousand Islands: Not Just a Salad Dressing...
July 2007, Clayton, New York

Having visited almost every state in our great nation, I am partial to the amazing state of New York. But then again I suppose everyone is a patriot of their home state. And while I am eager to recognize what they find beautiful, wanting to discover it for myself, I am equally adamant about the jewel of New York State: The Thousand Islands.

Tucked away in the St. Lawrence River along the border of Canada and the USA, are over 1,800 islands, dressed in pine and oak, teaming with birds, adorned with chateaus and passed through by sail boats to ocean going tankers.

Not just a salad dressing (yes, Thousand Islands dressing was first mixed together in Clayton, NY at the Thousands Islands Inn by order of George Boldt), the Thousands Islands Seaway is a must see for your next family trip. A long-time playground for the rich and famous, the region is now opening its arms to the general public.

From the world's largest collection of wooden boats, housed at the world-renown Antique Boat Museum, to the numerous musical acts performing at the Clayton Opera House, visiting our home town is sure to afford you many lasting memories.

Other points of interest would include Boldt Castle in Alexandria Bay, NY, and an Uncle Sam Boat Tour to get a better look at all the islands. Of course all of this isn't nearly as fun as eating a salad in Clayton, NY and, when your server asks you what kind of dressing you'd like, you smile wide and say...
