Milledgeville, is located about 90 minutes southeast of Atlanta and about 45 minutes east of Macon in Central Georgia. It was the State Capitol 1803-1868 before being moved to Atlanta.

Milledgeville is in the Guinness Book of Records for being the only city in the world to make a train stop at a red light. Oliver Hardy lived here when he was a boy. Other notable people who lived in Milledgeville include Carl Vinson, "Father of the two ocean navy" and Flannery O'Connor.

When you come to Milledgeville, stop by the Visitor's Bureau and purchase the Trolley Ticket. The Trolley will take you to the Governor's Mansion, Old Capitol Museum, Lockerly Aboretum and Lockerly Hall, St. Stephen's Church and some of the antebellum homes downtown. Andaulusia, the home of Flannery O'Connor, is about 4 miles north of downtown.

After seeing the sights, lots of restaurants are downtown. The Brick, Pig in a Pit and Buffington's are just a few of the local famil- friendly restaurants. Little girls love to go to Tara's Tea Thyme for a tea party, complete with dress up clothes and hats. For a quiet, romantic dinner, mom and dad can make reservations at 119 Chops. Other yummy places to visit in town include, Scoop, Ryal's Bakery and Goodie Gallery.

Several chain hotels are in town, but a B&B, The Antebellum Inn, is downtown. It is a charming house on a tree lined street with a gracious hostess.

Milledgeville Lake SinclairIf you are interested in antiques and original art by Southern artists, there are several fun shops to explore.The Red Door, Villane's, Auntie Bellum's Attic are just a few of the shops with a lot of character. Be sure to stop by Harrold's Dress Shop to get the Milledgeville T-shirt.

If you enjoy outside activites, beautiful Lake Sinclair is in Milledgeville. Fishing, boating and other water sports are fun at the lake. When at the lake, pull up the boat and have catfish at Choby's, another family-friendly restaurant. There are also several golf courses in the area.
