Trip Report

A Perfect Weekend at Copper Mountain

Copper Mountain, Colorado

Dates we went: January 10-12th, 2008

Who was involved: Two parents and three children (ages 14, 14 and 11)

Where we stayed: The Cirque

What we did: skied, swam, watched movies and read

Where we ate:
Mostly in the condo, but we happened on a great family deal for lunch one day at Pizza Carlos (at the base of the mountain near the American Eagle lift). We got an 18” 2-topping pizza with lots of cheese, a wonderful family size salad (with lots of fresh, crisp romaine, roma tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion and mozzarella) and four soft drinks all for $32. It was plenty to feed all 5 of us with leftovers, which they boxed up and kept refrigerated for us until the end of the day.

Why it was perfect
:
The Cirque was absolutely lovely – extremely clean and comfortable, everything needed to do our own cooking – all we needed to bring was the food. There was a huge hot tub with a view of the mountains, and right next to it was an outdoor pool, complete with fountain, heated enough to swim in it comfortably even with outdoor temperatures at 20 degrees F. Each day we found complimentary hot cider in the gathering space in the lodge. There was a workout room, a “kid room” with bean bag chairs and a foosball table, and a media room with a large screen TV (where we were able to watch our beloved Green Bay Packers upset the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs!) Copper Mountain has wonderful runs for all levels of skiers. Even though the snow was great (they had received 16” in the past 7 days) we never waited in a lift line more than 15 minutes. We especially enjoyed Witches Cove – a fun little run through the trees, just off of High Point run. We tested our skills on a few bump runs and fulfilled our need for speed on some nice steep blues and blacks on both sides of the mountain.
