Who Are the Founding FamilyTripsters?
About Us

We’re the Bergrens and the Shonts's, friends who dared to venture to Italy together and returned home better friends than ever (a feat in itself!). Our trip in Fall 2005 from Rome to Venice was fabulous, and only whet our appetite to travel more—and show our kids what it means to be a global citizen.

In Spring 2007, Lisa and Tim Bergren took their children—Olivia (12), Emma (9), and Jack (4)—to Italy, and met up with Lisa’s parents in Rome. Together, the three generations traveled from Rome, to Tuscany, to Venice, giving the kids a “first memory” of Italy. Lisa also traveled with her eldest daughter, Olivia, to Venice, six months prior.

The Bergrens enjoy traveling to see family in Arizona, California and Montana. Their next “big” trip will be in June to go to Puerto Rico and Nevis, in the West Indies. Other areas that intrigue them for future trips—Patagonia, Ireland, New Zealand. They reside in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Tim is an artist and musician and Lisa writes books and edits.

Darren and Sarah Shonts just returned from an amazing adventure vacation in Costa Rica with their children—Tyler (16), Haylee (15), Nicholas (15) and Brendan (11). They visited San Jose, Arenal, Bijagua, and the Osa Peninsula. After six months of planning, they were excited about immersing themselves in the local culture, seeing the wide diversity of plant and animal life, trying the local cuisine and adventuring together… anyone up for horseback riding, kayaking, snorkeling, dolphin watching, hiking, fishing, playing with monkeys or ziplining over the jungle canopy?!

The family of six enjoys traveling to see family in Wisconsin every summer and do a lot of skiing in the local Colorado mountains. Daydreaming about the future, they would love to take the family to Washington DC, Ireland and Germany. They reside in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Darren is a residential real estate appraiser and Sarah works in high tech.
